Legendary Stax Records Presents 'Pink Elephant' From Gripping Soul Singer N'dambi On October 6th
ON OCTOBER 6TH
Every so often, a musical soul emerges from the underground with the inescapable talent; artistry and charisma that marks the arrival a gathering storm. Pink Elephant is the Stax Records debut from N’dambi, a songwriter with emotional purpose and rare honesty. The striking vocalist, pianist and composer from Dallas, Texas, known for her signature afro and fiery style, possesses the intuitive perception and powerful creativity that ensures an essential contribution to modern R&B and soul.
N’dambi’s storytelling skills are in peak form on Pink Elephant with tunes like the Rod Temperton influenced, ‘80s hip-hop flavored “Nobody Jones,” the story of a girl with big dreams who won’t let her humble beginnings stop her, and the delicious saga “L.I.E.,” a tale of a man living a double life along New York’s Long Island Expressway. Delusions of love spring up in the old school love-gone-wrong melodic funk of “Daisy Chain”; “Ooo Baby” is the smooth-grooving tale of reconnection with a former lover; while the blues-inflected “Imitator” finds a young woman suffering over the collapse of her lover’s promises. “You’re not the man I used to know, you’re an imitator,” she sings on this mid-tempo urban gem. The hope of true love cries out in “The One,” a disarming, jazz-tinged ballad kissed with a touch of classic Stax. The album’s lead single, “Can’t Hardly Wait,” is a biting chunk of scorching sarcasm delivered in the commanding singer’s rich tone. Her opening complaint, “I don’t know why I keep f***in’ wit you,” perfectly expresses the inability to turn a listless love loose.
Pink Elephant was recorded in Santa Monica, California, with producer Leon Sylvers III, whose credits include Shalamar, Gladys Knight, The Whispers, Blackstreet, Lakeside and many more. N’dambi insisted the record have a modern sheen yet adhere to the sturdy influence of classic R&B and soul artists like Slave, Heatwave, Michael Jackson, Betty Davis, Isaac Hayes, Smokey Robinson, and The Sylvers. That led her to The Sylvers’ famous producer, big brother, Leon.
Blessed with a deep contralto, she became especially enamored with male singers from the ‘70s and ‘80s. The funky soul of the Bar-Kays’ Larry Dodson, the sophisticated syncopation of Earth, Wind & Fire’s Maurice White and the notorious abandon of the Ohio Players’ Sugafoot influenced her heavily. Later, the mysterious, uninhibited imagination of Nina Simone and Mahalia Jackson also became musical and cultural touchstones. N’dambi sang back-up and collaborated with fellow soul seeker Erykah Badu, all the while honing her artistry and slowly building a fiercely loyal fan base that resonates with the organic, authentic approach to her life and music.
On Pink Elephant, N’dambi ingeniously distills soul-deep inspiration into a sensual style of elegance and power, making her a fundamental new addition to the Stax legacy.

Hype Holla Gets It Started with DJ Whoo Kid, HYPEothetically Speaking & Believe
Additionally, Hype Holla is flexing his acting skills in the new independent film Death Force, which will debut on August 29 at the Columbus Theatre in Providence. He is also planning a variety of community service-related events this Fall to unite people through his own "Believe Music" movement, including the "Back-to-School Cookout" at South Side Recreation Center in Providence, with food, games and giveaways on September 5.

"There will be no hate or jealousy toward anyone – just peace and love. I look forward to working with anybody willing to work with me.”
Hype's new single "Get It Started" is a lively presentation of the young songwriter's lyrical talent and performance ability, and the HYPEothetically Speaking mixtape with largely original production will give Hip Hop fans good reason to celebrate the Rhode Island sound.
As the Northeast rallies to "bring Hip Hop back" to the roots of the region, artists like Hype Holla are maintaining a global perspective as they represent. He is focused on channeling even the toughest of his life experiences through songs that everyone can enjoy.
“My music is powerful, realistic and believable,” Hype asserts. “I want to be known for my lyrical content more than anything. With my creativity and artistry I can and will make a difference. I do this for the fans, and hopefully together we can make some big changes in and outside of Hip Hop. I believe that my music will help people get through their day, and will allow them to have fun while they listen.”
International radio and club personality DJ Whoo Kid will host the release event for HYPEothetically Speaking on September 10 at Pearl Lounge (393 Charles St) in Providence, Rhode Island, beginning at 10:00pm.

New Book - 'The Men Who Sleep With My Husband'
WILL A WOMAN CHOOSE THE BIBLE OR THE BULLET?
The Men Who Sleep With My Husband | Author - Alicia Coston |
Virginia Beach, VA (BlackNews.com) - Author Alicia Coston answers this question and so much more in her highly anticipated thriller, The Men Who Sleep With My Husband.
"Yes, I've written about homosexuality in the black church, but I know I'm not the only one who has because it's an actuality. Frankly, that's not all this book is about; I've put a different spin on things. There are five characters in my novel, each with their own voice, each battling with duality in very diverse ways as we all do." The author touches on faith, adultery, and family dysfunction within the African-American family and other cultural backgrounds.
The story involves Pastor Quincy Wallace, a man of the cloth and a man of many secrets. When his beautiful and successful wife, Lavender, discovers his affairs with different men, she takes matters into her own hands with the help of a mysterious contract killer named The Magician. Lavender plans to get rid of each of her husband's lovers and then frame her husband for those murders. Everything seems to be going smoothly until Lavender finds herself falling for sexy Detective Tai Exavier, the same person investigating the disturbing case of the missing men. Not to mention her teenaged son, Jalen, begins to have suspicions about the father he's looked up to for years. Will Lavender's scheme give her the revenge she seeks, or will her road to redemption hit a life-changing dead end?
Coston says, "I find it amazing when I meet so many women now who say this very thing happened to them. I also want to continue to call special attention to the HIV epidemic amongst black women in this book and make it clear that this isn't just a gay or 'down low' disease. Some people say that talking about the issue is like beating a dead horse. Yet in 2009 alone, the federal government found that 1 out of 16 black men and 1 out of 30 black women will contract HIV in their lifetimes. I'd say that 'horse' never died."
Camilla Sidone, CEO of Write On Publications out of New York City, stated, "Just when I thought I couldn't read a more candid and gripping story about adultery and deception, here comes The Men Who Sleep With My Husband. It's not the typical 'down-low brother' book at all. It was an original eye-opener, the surprise I needed, and one heck of a thriller!" Coston's relative, who lived a very similar story, inspired her to write the book.
Alicia Coston made her literary debut in 2007 with her critically acclaimed erotic thriller, She's Killin' Me. She is currently establishing a non-profit performing arts organization for underprivileged teens and is working on several projects which include her third novel, Death of a Groupie, and a stage play. BESLA ANNOUNCES 29th ANNUAL CONFERENCE FOCUSING ON "DISRUPTERS' FOR CHANGE and GREEN AS SMART BUSINESS
“BESLA is very important to our community. It opens doors and connects lawyers and executives from all over the world,” states Ed Woods, BESLA Chairman of the Board. “The conference gets us to focus on the current matters at hand that effect our clients and how we can better serve them.”
For nearly 30 years, BESLA has gained respect as an organization that supports a more diversified and informed network of entertainment and sports industry professionals. BESLA’s conference is a much respected event because of its top-notch panels and round-the-clock networking. The annual conference offers entertainment and sports professionals and members of the legal community the opportunity to “reset” in a thoughtful, relaxing environment; to examine people, events and technologies that have shaped the entertainment, sports and legal industries; to profit from the exchange of this knowledge; and to frame a responsive approach as “disrupters for change.”
As part of this focus, BESLA will honor Tommie Smith and John Carlos, who gave the iconic black glove fist salute in support of human and civil rights while receiving their medals at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. The organization has also invited Tony Dungy, the first African-American head coach to win the Super Bowl, to receive its Lifetime Achievement Award. BESLA will also debut its “Green in the Spotlight” initiative in Aruba. The Green Day line-up features a panel that presents compelling business reasons for going ‘green’ as well as eco-friendly actions that attorneys, managers and their talented clients are taking to demonstrate that ‘going green’ is smart business and empowering. Techniques for drafting and negotiating ‘green’ clauses into agreements and how they contribution to a positive bottom line also will be discussed. The ‘greening’ concept also underpins the Student Scholarship Luncheon, which will feature the winners of the BESLA Brief Legal Writing Competition. Law students entering the competition for scholarships may submit either a written essay or a video or slideshow presentation expressing a green point of view toward the essay topic. BESLA has awarded over $110,000 in scholarships to deserving law students seeking careers in the entertainment and sports industries.
With the recent sudden celebrity losses that the industry has faced, the conference also puts timely focus on the crucial importance of multi-dimensional practice skills such as estate preservation and management. Another panel will center on the hotly-debated artist performance rights legislation (Give the Drummer Some!!! The Legislative Beat on Performance Royalties and Copyright for Artists).
BESLA ‘s conference entertainment line-up features a pre-Halloween “Thriller Throwback” dance as a tribute to arguably the most positive, ‘disruptive’ force in entertainment history - Michael Jackson, whose 1982 ‘Thriller’ album and video releases shattered sales records and pioneered global digital music and entertainment marketing.

The album – which follows 2007’s breakthrough sophomore set, “TREY DAY” – sees the Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter teaming with an array of accomplished collaborators, including Eric Hudson, Bryan-Michael Cox, Johnta Austin, Carlos “Los DaMystro” McKinney, and Trey’s longtime producer, Songbook Entertainment founder Troy Taylor. “LOL :-),” the album’s most recent single, is blowing up now at Urban Mainstream radio outlets nationwide. A full scale U.S. concert tour is currently in the works, with details to be announced later.
* * * * *
Trey Songz first burst to the forefront of modern urban music in 2005 with his critically acclaimed debut, “I GOTTA MAKE IT.” “TREY DAY” followed in 2007, entering Billboard’s “Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums” tally at #2, while also exploding onto the Billboard 200 at #11. The album found the Virginia-based Songz teaming up with a stunning selection of studio superstars, resulting in a number of hit singles, including “Missin You,” “Last Time,” and the #1 Urban Mainstream smash, “Can’t Help But Wait.” The latter track established Trey as a true sensation, earning him his first-ever Grammy Award nomination, for “Best Male R&B Performance.”
Songz – a 2008 BET Award nominee for “Best Male R&B Artist” – celebrated “TREY DAY” with a long list of TV appearances, including live performances on BET’s 106 & Park and It’s Showtime At The Apollo, not to mention a featured spot on BET’s annual Rip The Runway extravaganza, modeling fashion created by some of today’s hottest designers. Trey – aka “the Prince of Virginia” – was also among the VA-based artists showcased on MTV2’s My Block, alongside such like-minded musicians as Timbaland, Pharell, and the Clipse.
In December 2008, Gap enlisted Trey and Flo Rida to write and produce a street-smart rendition of a Christmas classic for its annual holiday promotion. The unique “Jingle Bells” spot proved a marketing sensation throughout the holiday season.
What’s more, Songz has been profiled in a variety of national publications, highlighted by cover features in Right On!, Floss, and Black Beat. Other magazine appearances include King, Sister 2 Sister, WordUp!, SBH, Blackmen, XXL Presents Hip-Hop Soul, Giant, Hype Hair, and Rap Fanatic.

CD Tribute To Maze featuring Frankie Beverly Released Digitally Today
Grammy nominee Rex Rideout (Vanessa Williams, Will Downing, Ledisi) and Anthony Beverly (Frankie’s son) produced nine tracks on the album. Grammy winner Donald Lawrence produced the Clark Sisters’ “I Wanna Thank You” track. “For the most part, we let the vocalists, and their distinctive styles command how the songs would be freshened,” says Rideout. “All of the artists did great jobs interpreting Frankie and bringing a new twist to a great song book.
"Seeing my father's reaction to the final album was priceless,” says Anthony, who also served as one of the executive producers on the project (along with Music services, LLC and his entertainment attorney wife, Heather Beverly). “To see the emotion on his face when he heard each and every song was one of the proudest moments of my life. He loves the album and is overwhelmed that so many people came together to make it happen. It is definitely a project that gives my father and Maze their just due."
Around the country, there have been exclusive listening parties that have brought out everyday fans, music industry VIPS and celebrities such as the iconic Stevie Wonder who stopped by the Hollywood album release party. Well, no matter what happens in the days, months or years to come, I have indeed been blessed to see, feel and hear this gift of gifts from a loving son and his lovely wife. There are no words to express my true gratitude for all the artists involved, all of who gave one hundred percent of themselves to this project. The current single, Regret, featuring Ludacris is already picking up steam and showing promising signs of success as it debuted the most added record to Urban Radio picking up more than 35 adds. The bold, yet sultry vocals of LeToya announces how apologetic her man is for ending their relationship as Ludacris lyrically proclaims how a woman should be treated.
The first single, “Not Anymore” finished No.1 Most Added at Media Base. Among the 42 urban stations that have added the song include such powerhouses as, WJLB/Detroit, KBXX/ Houston, KBFB/Dallas, WPEG/Charlotte, WWPR/New York and WOWI/Norfolk.
The video for “Not Anymore’ was shot in Los Angeles under the direction of Bryan Barber. In addition to Ne-Yo, “Lady Love” boasts production contributions by (Tank, Oak, Bei-Maejor, Neff-U). LeToya also makes cameo appearances on albums by two of her label-mates: “Somebody Else” from Avant’s recently released self-titled album and “Love Rollercoaster” from MIMS’ upcoming sophomore set “Guilt.”
Showcasing a more powerful LeToya, “She Aint Got” speaks of a time when a woman has put years of energy into a relationship and when it’s easily interrupted by a miscellaneous other woman. The video, directed by Bryan Barber, features Orlando Hudson and Matt Kemp of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield as LeToya chants “Swing batta, batta” throughout the chorus of the song. An instant visual hit, the video was immediately added to MTV Jams and VH1 Soul, as Music Choice added it as ‘Most Demanded and Choice Cuts’ and the video remained on BET’s 106th & Park countdown for 3 consecutive weeks.
Born and raised in Houston, LeToya (née Luckett) sang her first solo in church at the tender age of five. After meeting Beyoncé Knowles in elementary school, the pair later joined forces as members of Destiny’s Child. During LeToya’s seven-year stint, she co-wrote two of the group’s gold singles, “Bills Bills Bills” and “Say My Name,” and appeared on the group’s breakthrough album, “The Writing’s on the Wall.”
In addition to her musical talents, LeToya’s also a successful entrepreneur. She owns and operates two upscale women’s boutiques called Lady Elle. Now in its sixth year, the clothing store is located in two of Houston’s premium shopping domains, The Galleria and Uptown Park shopping center.
This summer, Luckett will co-star in her first feature film debut and lead role; The Preacher’s Kid in theatres October 30, 2009 and will play alongside Ashton Kutcher & Katherine Heigl in Five Killers due out in 2010.
Stax presents Pink Elephant from gripping soul singer N'dambi
N'dambi's storytelling skills are in peak form on Pink Elephant with tunes like the Rod Temperton influenced, '80s hip-hop flavored "Nobody Jones," the story of a girl with big dreams who won't let her humble beginnings stop her, and the delicious saga "L.I.E.," a tale of a man living a double life along New York's Long Island Expressway. Delusions of love spring up in the old school love-gone-wrong melodic funk of "Daisy Chain"; "Ooo Baby" is the smooth-grooving tale of reconnection with a former lover; while the blues-inflected "Imitator" finds a young woman suffering over the collapse of her lover's promises. "You're not the man I used to know, you're an imitator," she sings on this mid-tempo urban gem. The hope of true love cries out in "The One," a disarming, jazz-tinged ballad kissed with a touch of classic Stax. The album's lead single, "Can't Hardly Wait," is a biting chunk of scorching sarcasm delivered in the commanding singer's rich tone. Her opening complaint, "I don't know why I keep f***in' wit you," perfectly expresses the inability to turn a listless love loose. Take a listen:

Pink Elephant was recorded in Santa Monica, California, with producer Leon Sylvers III, whose credits include Shalamar, Gladys Knight, The Whispers, Blackstreet, Lakeside and many more. N'dambi insisted the record have a modern sheen yet adhere to the sturdy influence of classic R&B and soul artists like Slave, Heatwave, Michael Jackson, Betty Davis, Isaac Hayes, Smokey Robinson, and The Sylvers. That led her to The Sylvers' famous producer, big brother, Leon.
Blessed with a deep contralto, she became especially enamored with male singers from the '70s and '80s. The funky soul of the Bar-Kays' Larry Dodson, the sophisticated syncopation of Earth, Wind & Fire's Maurice White and the notorious abandon of the Ohio Players' Sugafoot influenced her heavily. Later, the mysterious, uninhibited imagination of Nina Simone and Mahalia Jackson also became musical and cultural touchstones. N'dambi sang back-up and collaborated with fellow soul seeker Erykah Badu, all the while honing her artistry and slowly building a fiercely loyal fan base that resonates with the organic, authentic approach to her life and music.
On Pink Elephant, N'dambi ingeniously distills soul-deep inspiration into a sensual style of elegance and power, making her a fundamental new addition to the Stax legacy.

Swollen Members Leak The New Song 'Warrior' From Upcoming LP Armed To The Teeth
Swollen Members Leak The New Song ‘Warrior’ Online
Swollen Members Overcome Drug Addiction, Legal Problems and Labels Collapsing To Record New Album “Armed To The Teeth” Featuring La Coka Nostra, Talib Kweli, and Tech N9NE.
Swollen Members have leaked the new track “Warrior” online at www.MySpace.com/SwollenMembers from their upcoming new album “Armed To The Teeth” which lands in stores October 13th, 2009 through Suburban Noize and Battle Axe Records.
"It's been a crazy few years for not only me, but also Swollen. I was in a very bad state for the last three years; drugs and an abusive lifestyle had gotten the best of me. I was severely addicted to Oxycontin, doing just over twenty 80mg pills a day, which equals the strength of about 320 Percocet pills. I became public enemy #1 with the cops due to my association with Hell's Angels and other clubs and was under constant surveillance with wire taps, etc. There was a time when I couldn't leave my house without being confronted by the cops. At least 3 or 4 police vehicles would show up every time I left the house," says Mad Child. "And with a diet of two quarts of ice cream a night, I gained a lot of weight and slipped into a very dark place. I was basically living in my theater room for the last two years and spent over half a million dollars on pills. I wasn't paying attention to my business affairs either so I lost two million dollars over the course of my addiction. I went from living the high life with girls, money and parties to watching movies in my theatre and being a zombie with only my dogs to keep me company. What I now realize is that I put the lives of many people on hold during my addiction. There are a lot of people that count on me and I know I let them down. Thank God I have a studio in my house and an amazing group who never abandoned me. The only good thing that came out of the last three years is the album we are about to drop."
While Swollen Members may have enjoyed a successful career as one of the premier groups’ in underground hip-hop, but when it came time to record their sixth studio album, they were forced to confront the skeletons that had been hiding in their closet. During the time the group’s new album “Armed To The Teeth” was taking shape, Mad Child was struggling with drug addiction, Swollen Members’ record label had collapsed, he was embroiled in legal battles and his association with outlaw motorcycle clubs provoked police to swarm his house in full riot gear. With a desire to consistently raise the bar within the hip-hop genre, Mad Child and Prevail were inspired to beat back personal demons and concentrate on creating the most powerful musical statement of their career. Revitalized, focused and stronger than ever, Swollen Members are armed and ready for war. Swollen Members heavily anticipated new studio album, "Armed To The Teeth”, features guest appearances La Coka Nostra, Talib Kweli and Tech N9NE.

HITMAKING SONGWRITER CLAUDE KELLY PENS MILEY CYRUS' #1 HIT 'PARTY IN THE USA'
“Party In The USA,” which also features production by the critically acclaimed producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald (Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry), leaked via the Internet at the end of July. The song made its proper debut with a highly publicized performance by Miley Cyrus at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards. Less than a week later, it was announced that the song was the 2nd most added at radio this year.
"Party in the USA" is the first single from Miley’s upcoming new release, and will appear on a forthcoming Wal-Mart exclusive EP that will debut along with the starlet's Max Azria clothing line this month. The song is prominently featured in the current televised national advertising campaign in promotion of the new clothing line.
In addition to Miley Cyrus, Claude also penned Kelly Clarkson’s latest #1 single, “My Life Would Suck Without You," which reached record-breaking success. On Chrisette Michelle’s album, Epiphany, Claude wrote a whopping 5-songs, including her hit single, “Blame It On Me,” which aided in making the album reach #1 in sales its first week. He also wrote Britney Spears’ hit single, “Circus,” which is the title track from her chart topping album and tour. Claude’s talent for writing hits landed him 3 songs (the most of any single writer on the project) off the highly anticipated, soon to be released album by Whitney Houston, I Look to You.
Recently, the diverse songwriter wrote songs for several highly anticipated new albums, including: Michael Jackson, Toni Braxton, R. Kelly, and Christina Aguilera. Claude’s goal is to write hit songs for all genres of music, and so far, he’s reaching that goal.
As one of the most sought after songwriters in music today, Claude got his big break when he wrote the song, "Daddy's Little Girl" for Frankie J's 2006 album, Priceless. Claude’s work so impressed Akon that in late 2007, the singer suggested Claude write to some of his music, one of which was "Forgive Me", written for Leona Lewis' debut album and produced by Akon, respectively. Another song he wrote was "Hold My Hand" which was set to feature on Akon's third album, however the song leaked, and it was decided not to be included in the album. The song features Michael Jackson. At present, he's working with Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Backstreet Boys, Carrie Underwood, Christina Aguilera and Kris Allen.

Culture Icon Snoop Dogg Announces Partnership with Famed Krumper Tommy The Clown To Create C.L.O.U.T.
The first event organized by C.L.O.U.T. is a monthly Battle Night. Battle Night, held at the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College's Grand Theater and hosted and emceed by Tommy the Clown, allows young people to compete and showcase their individual talents before an audience of their peers. Youth are encouraged to express themselves through drama, dance, song, poetry or comedy. Geared toward youngsters from middle to high school from the Los Angeles area (with a focus on the underserved communities), Battle Night promotes a positive and self-affirming lifestyle for kids by developing and showcasing their diverse artistic talents.
The partnership has a personal meaning to Snoop. He says, "As a youth I had one teacher who really pushed me to be the best and gave me an outlet to really feel like I could be somebody – and I became successful partly because of his belief in me. I want to give that to the kids so they know there is more to life than the street hustle or crime. I have been friends with Tommy the Clown for years and see what he has done for so many people; this partnership is very important to me."
Tommy the Clown agrees, "I am honored to partner with Snoop and establish an opportunity for the kids in our community. When you have clout, you have strong influence. I believe the clout both Snoop and I have will help influence these kids to make some positive decisions about their future."
In addition to C.L.O.U.T., Tommy the Clown is preparing for his first National workshop tour. The tour will give both children and adults the rare opportunity to study with the master of Krump and experience his incredibly positive presence and impeccable technique. The timing for the workshop tour could not be better, as this once little-known dance form has quickly captured the dance world's spotlight and, more importantly, the hearts of people across the country from all walks of life.

Free Online Resource to Help Youth Make It
The Youth Development and Research Fund (YDRF) has just announced the release of the MAKiN' iT Shop -- a special free on-line resource where parents, educators and others working with youth ages 12-24 can get resources on how to promote the importance of education, work and positive values to this very hard to reach group of young adults.
With school about to start throughout the U.S., many young people are not in the right mind-set to take advantaged on the education offered. YDRF's President Edward DeJesus states, "In light of the economic recession many young people have lost hope in the traditional ways of labor market success."
For the past twenty years, DeJesus has worked with some of the toughest at-risk youth populations in the U.S. Through the utilization of youth cultural competence, YDRF has broken the mold of 8-track youth services. YDRF's activities engage participants more directly in their own learning through the power of peer influence, youth involvement and youth popular culture. YDRF's process engages youth, and the people who work with them, in the learning process. It goes beyond simply documenting a students' ability to answer questions on a test. The MAKiN' iT Shop is chock-full of activities designed to capture youth attention and get the message across about what it truly takes to be successful.
Eugene Bell, Program Director at the Ready Set Go program in Madera California uses MAKiN' iT activities. He states, "We use it because we understand that true economic self-sufficiency means more than just preparing youth for work."
With the highest rate of youth unemployment in the past 50 years, young people's future is at-risk. The MAKiN' iT Shop was created to help decrease that risk by showing educators new ways to communicate the message -- "education and work experience makes the difference."
