Club Nouveau's Jay King is Back on the Scene with Webisodes and New Solo CD

Los Angeles, CA - Industry veteran, musician and producer, Jay King has always been ahead of the curve. As the founder/creator of Club Nouveau, perhaps one of the most distinctive and original groups to grace the contemporary music scene, he has been influencing the musical landscape since first forming the group in 1986.

Club Nouveau sold over ten million records, toured worldwide, charted eleven Billboard hit singles and garnered numerous awards and prestigious nominations with hits that included "Jealousy," "Situation #9, "Why You Treat Me So Bad," and the remake of Bill Withers' "Lean On Me."

Forever the maverick, King is also credited with creating a new chapter in music history by independently producing, pressing, marketing and promoting the biggest selling 12-inch single in history, "Rumors" by the Timex Social Club. He paved the path for independent record companies and was actually a forerunner to the current state of the music business, initially demonstrating the true power of the committed artist operating outside of the confines of the major label.

Unlike many past musical wonders however, King is undaunted by the newest wave of changes on the music horizon and is once again forging new inroads. With his first solo CD "Open Book," on KingJay Nouveau Music he proves himself still a true chameleon, remaining current and relevant to the times with an adult contemporary offering that is textured with the mature tonality of pure love.

A ten song adventure through adult contemporary, the musical escapade provides the textures of love, life and spirit. Working with musical powers such as Larry Dunn of Earth, Wind and Fire, guitar virtuoso Tony Dewayne, saxophone wizard Cal Bennett and veteran industry staple John Barnes, Jay has created a masterpiece in the realm of an audio experience that is a destined to become a standard for all time. Tracks like "I Would Die For You" and "I Have a Way with the Woman" ring like timeless classics.

In addition, King hosts his own Blogtalk radio show and has launched a new web series, "Up Close and Personal," which broadcast live from the Kulak Woodshed in North Hollywood, CA. Revealing yet another dimension to his musical master mind, "Up Close and Personal" is an intimate peak into the lives and personalities of some of music's most unheralded heroes. The two-hour webcast is a one-on-one conversation set in a music studio/coffee house atmosphere, where guests reveal untold anecdotes, behind-the-scenes revelations and inspiring tales about their musical paths.

On Thursday, July 2 from 8:00 p.m to 10:00 p.m. PST, the first family of jazz, the Laws Family will take the hot seat at the Kulak Woodshed with King for an unprecedented discussion about their rich history and contributions to the annuls of jazz. With over 30 years in the limelight, and over 50 albums between them, this will be a first for Ronnie, Eloise, Hubert and Debra Laws! The interview will broadcast live on the web at www.kulakswoodshed.com .

Then on Friday, July 10, at 8:00 p.m., Jay King returns to Kulak Woodshed for a live unplugged performace of material from his new CD "Open Book" That performance will also broadcast live on the web at www.kulakswoodshed.com . King is also slated to perform live at the Aqua Lounge in Beverly Hills, CA on July 14.

With his Blogtalk radio show at www.BlogTalkRadio.com/Jay-King, King ventures off the music trail to get topical about subjects spanning the field of social issues covering topics such as child rearing to gang-banging to corny pick-up lines. Every Sunday, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. PST, he is joined by co-host/sidekick Robert Redwine in an interactive medium of lively discussion and debate.

"The music business will never be the same again," cites King, "and neither will the world for that matter. So as veteran artists it's vital that we keep reinventing ourselves. The World Wide Web is just that, its world wide. I'm now able to develop a new platform and reach an even more diverse and wider fan base via the social networking sites. I tell older artists all the time, don't complain about the state of the industry, but jump in and get with it. I am having the time of my life."

Jay King can be accessed at www.jayking.ning.com , www.tagged.com/jking3 and www.myspace.com/jayking3music. "Open Book" is available on the Internet and wherever great music is sold !

Motown 50 Fanthology: Songs for 2-CD Compilation to be Selected via Website Voting!

Continuing the celebration of Motown’s 50th anniversary, fans will decide which 50 songs from the classic Motown catalog will be heard on a forthcoming two-CD “fanthology.” The selections on Motown 50 Fanthology (Motown/UMe), to be released September 1, 2009, will be chosen by fans voting for their favorites on a special Website, http://classic.motown.com/vote . Voting begins immediately and will conclude July 15. The songs will be arranged on the CDs from 1 to 50, with #1 being the track with the most votes.

On the site, fans may choose their five most beloved songs from a list of more than 100 of Motown’s greatest recordings, from the label’s first major hit, 1960’s “Money (That’s What I Want)” by Barrett Strong, through Boyz II Men’s Motown–retro smash “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye To Yesterday”, with such classics as Smokey Robinson & the Miracles’ “The Tears Of A Clown”, the Supremes’ “Stop! In The Name Of Love”, the Temptations’ “My Girl”, Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition”, and Rick James’ “Super Freak” in between. One song is even offered in two versions: “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye and by Gladys Knight & The Pips. More than 40 artists are represented, including besides those already mentioned Diana Ross, Four Tops, the Jackson 5, the Commodores, Mary Wells, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas, the Marvelettes and Lionel Richie.

In 2008, fans in the U.K. and internationally voted for their favorites, which were heard on their best-selling (approaching 700,000 sales) editions of Motown 50. The top three? Gaye’s “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas’ “Dancing In The Street” and the Supremes’ “Baby Love”. The chart-topping Motown 50 has gone Platinum, Gold, or Silver in 8 European Countries. The successful compilation reached Top Ten in 13 countries, including Denmark, the U.K., Finland, Norway, and Sweden, where it was number 1. Fans not only picked up physical copies, but Motown 50 also scored Top Ten spots on the Digital Chart in numerous countries as well.

For Motown 50 Fanthology, U.S. fans will be able to vote only once. The first 50 voters will receive a credit on the album and the first 500 voters will receive an “I Voted! Motown 50” collector’s edition bumper sticker. All voters will be entered in a random drawing for a grand prize—a trip for two to Hitsville, U.S.A., the original Detroit home of Motown, including flight, hotel, admission to the Motown Museum, and tickets to a forthcoming Motown gala event. The winner will be announced on August 17.

In addition, UMe/Motown has partnered with the People’s Choice Awards to offer fans the opportunity to vote for their favorite Motown artist of all time. Voting in this exclusive category will take place on the official People’s Choice Awards website, www.pcaVOTE.com, from June 24 until July 15. The winner, as voted on by the fans, will be featured in the upcoming “fanthology” album and recognized during the 36th Annual People’s Choice Awards in 2010. By voting in this special category on ww.pcaVOTE.com, voters have another chance to compete for the grand prize.

As an irresistible force of social and cultural change, Berry Gordy’s legendary Motown Records made its mark not just on the music industry but society at large, with a sound that has become one of the most significant musical accomplishments and stunning success stories of the 20th century. No other record company in history has exerted such an enormous influence on both the style and substance of popular music and culture. That influence is still being felt today, from pop to hip-hop, as Motown celebrates the 50th anniversary of the company’s founding.

Today, Motown is part of the Universal Music Group, with its classic recorded music catalog managed by Universal Music Enterprises (UMe).

KRIZZ KALIKO HEADS TO TOP OF RAP CLASS WITH GENIUS ON JULY 14

It’s not every day a musical genius is born. On July 14, 2009, KRIZZ KALIKO will release his second solo CD, GENIUS. Along for KRIZZ KALIKO’s aurally eclectic rollercoaster ride are E-40, Kutt Calhoun, Big Scoob and, Strange’s flagship artist, Tech N9ne. Powered by a fusion of funk, rap, rock, R&B and opera – a self-made style KRIZZ KALIKO calls “Funkra” – GENIUS covers the entire spectrum of genres, from the slow and seductive “Get Off” with Tech N9ne and the rock-flavored “The Chemical” to the street anthem “Back Pack” and the album’s crossover single, “Misunderstood.”

“There are only a few guys to come along in music every so often that I think are geniuses,” KRIZZ KALIKO declares. “You got Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Prince, Kanye, T-Pain, Tech N9ne. I think those dudes are geniuses. I want people to think that same thing about me.”

Ambitious? Yes. But after working with Tech N9ne and Strange Music for 10 years, performing over 200 shows a year, KRIZZ KALIKO has earned the right to claim that title. His solo debut, 2008’s Vitiligo, landed at No. 19 on the Billboard charts and he has been instrumental in Tech N9ne’s incredible success: In 2008, Tech N9ne SoundScanned over one million units, making him the most successful independent Hip Hop artist in history.

KRIZZ KALIKO is the sonic “glue” of Strange Music. “I’m Tech’s right hand man in writing,” he says. “It’s a weird, beautiful chemistry. The yin and the yang. Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.”

Rosephanye Powell Rediscovers The African American Spiritual on "Motherless Child"

Singer/songwriter Rosephanye (pronounced ro-SEH-fuh-nee) Powell makes a powerful debut with the hauntingly beautiful and spiritually nutritious “Motherless Child” (Inkhorn Music). “Motherless Child” is a concentrated, ten song rediscovery and reinterpretation of the African American Spiritual based on a sonic tapestry representing the full measure of the African American musical legacy from its source in Africa straight through to that "peculiar institution" of American slavery and the African American work-songs that evolved from it to Gospel, Jazz, Soul and R&B. The CD is in digital release and can be purchased at CDBABY and at itunes.

Rosephanye is unusually well qualified to understand the traditions and backstory of the African-American spiritual … she holds a Doctorate in Music for Vocal Performance and is a Professor of Voice in the Department of Music at Alabama's Auburn University. Rosephanye is not a professor who sings, but a singer who also happens to be a professor, which is a very nimble combination.

“The African-American spiritual expressed our people's personal desires as well as religious beliefs. It was as much social as it was religious coming out of the African tradition that all of life is sacred because all of life involves the spirit of beings. As you may know, during slavery times, the separation of life into distinct religious and secular activities, was a European phenomenon. As time moved on, the uplifting message of Gospel music began to be embraced by a growing number of Black churches as "forward thinking" while spirituals were considered to be for the "backward thinking." Thus began the neglect of these songs by the Black church and community,” Rosephanye says.

With the release of “Motherless Child,” The African-American Spiritual will no longer be neglected, but embraced … embraced and celebrated with sweet appreciation, because of the talent and dedication of Rosepahnye Powell.

About Rosephanye Powell
Rosephanye Powell is an internationally recognized composer and arranger of classical choral music and African-American spirituals. As the nation's most published African-American female composer of choral music, her works have been published by major choral music publishers, including the Hal Leonard Corporation (the nation's leading music publisher), Gentry Publications (Tarzana, CA), Alliance Music (Houston, TX), and Oxford University Press (London, England). As an artist-educator, she has traveled around the country presenting recitals, lecture-recitals, concerts, presentations, and workshops on the African-American spiritual and its role in the slave culture. In May, Dr. Powell was honored as a recipient of the “Living Legend Award” during the 2009 African Diaspora Sacred Music Living Legends Festival presented by African Diaspora Sacred Music Program of California State University, Dominguez Hills, and the Music Department of El Camino College.

Miami Beat Wave Scores Nintendo DS Miami Law - Mixtape, Singles and More!

Once thought of as behind-the-scenes participants, producers and songwriters in today's music scene have become as important to fans as the performing artists. Talented production trio Miami Beat Wave is ready to step to the forefront in 2009 with the score for the new Nintendo DS video game Miami Law, an original mixtape with lyrical dynamo GhostWridah, a video for critically-acclaimed Grammy nominee Omniscient and much more!

Miami Beat Wave began as a vision of great music as North Carolina's Chip Williams, Miami's Brandan Toledo and Chicago's St. LaRok met up at in Orlando at the Full Sail School of Music & Media Production. All roommates at various points, the three men meshed their individual talents of musicianship, songwriting, mixing and producing to put a classic edge on crafting new-age sounds.

Since uniting as Miami Beat Wave, the team has been busy with an amazing range of projects. On June 9, 2009, Nintendo DS released their exclusive game Miami Law, which MBW scored with 15 full tracks. They also produced and co-star in Omniscient's latest video "Like Them," a single from his upcoming indie album Social Work.

In July the crew will enjoy the release of their single "Guess You Forgot" on David Correy's Urban Rock Odyssey album, and the release of GhostWridah's 305's and Heartbreak mixtape, which they fully produced. Miami Beat Wave also recently collaborated with Smitty, GhostWridah, Grammy-nominee Itagui from Locospuorjuana and Malik Yulsef of G.O.O.D. Music for the amazing song "My Brother."

Needless to say, the men of Miami Beat Wave truly appreciate each other's talents. With such diverse life experiences and musical tastes, the trio will bring their eclectic ideas to music fans with an honest approach.

I admire Brandan's drive, and dedication," Chip explains. "Brandan was the one who said to me, 'We can do this' three years ago, and that ability to bring the dream into reality is what I admire most about him. St.LaRok has an eccentric sound. He likes to be different; and his sample selection, chopping methods, and drums all combine to create a truly unique form of music."

St. LaRok continues with compliments on Chip's special talents: "Chip comes from a musical background that is very different from Brandan and myself, and is multi-talented with live instrumentation and engineering. He adds polish to the grit, so-to-speak."

The future is bright for Miami Beat Wave, and they are taking no prisoners as they forge ahead with new projects. "Our group is very dynamic in the sense that we are all from different places and have different styles when it comes to making music," explains Brandan. "My team has always had the vision to touch the masses and excel in this art form, and hopefully spark the minds of more musicians and producers to make good music. Longevity is something that we are very aware of. We want our music to speak forever."

MORE ABOUT SUZANNA SAMONE:

Raised in the streets of Birmingham, Alabama, Suzanna Samone aka Ferrari Barbie, didn't believe rapping was her life’s first priority. Like many women, Suzanna found herself in an abusive relationship that almost claimed her life in 1997 when her then boyfriend crashed a vehicle, with her in it. The accident sent her to the hospital with a 30/70 percent chance she would come out of the surgery, and unclear if she would she ever walk again.

It was during her recovery that she spent all of her time listening to music, evaluating and studying the hip hop craft from other artists. Suzanna Samone felt there was a lack of message delivered in today’s lyrics, that the ladies of hip hop past like Queen Latifah, Queen Pen, MC Lyte, Sweet Tee and Yo-Yo shared. Suzanna Samone picked up a pen and pad and started writing lyrics and recording with friend and rap artist/Producer "Attitude" of Warner Brothers Records. Today she is an unsigned artist, thanking Hip Hop that she survived a life threatening accident.

About Depart From Me

Definitive Jux is proud to present Depart From Me - the latest full-length album, from underground/indie-rap legend Cage, a/k/a Chris Palko. The follow-up to Hell's Winter, his 2005 critically-acclaimed LP, Depart From Me continues Cage's musical saga of a no-holds-barred, brutally autobiographical journey through his past and present. Cage explains, "The idea of making a positive change in my life and getting clean, that was Hell's Winter. Depart From Me is the struggle in implementing those ideas."

Cage began his career on the legendary Bobbito Garcia and Stretch Armstrong radio show and with the release of the single "Agent Orange" in 1997 on Garcia's label Fondle Em' Records. His talent led him to a deal with Eastern Conference Records, where he dropped his renowned full length LP, Movies For The Blind, one of the classic independent hip hop albums of this decade.

Plagued by abuse, institutionalization, drugs, and violence throughout his life, these nightmarish experiences have permeated his art and defined the music he makes today. Cage's music is truly reflective of a reality far stranger than fiction, he explains; "I want only to make music that is true to life, making a record that people can relate to. This would prove harder than I ever imagined."

By 2005, Cage had paired up with rap legend El-P and his label Def Jux to produce Hell's Winter, a dark walk towards the light at the end of a tunnel. With the upcoming Depart From Me and I Never Knew You EP Cage illuminates the struggles he's faced upon entering a world that continues to be a source of loss and confusion. He's helped along in this task with production by El-P, F. Sean (Hatebreed), Aesop Rock, and the late, great Camu Tao (R.I.P.).

"Pain and loss, obsession and anger... Love, depression and insecurities... Growth as well as failure and the ever challenging battle with addiction. These things are the very soul of my record. Depart From Me is about knowing what is destroying you and struggling to get those things out of you. This is my life. This is my record. I hope you enjoy it."

PAPER DOLLS ANNOUNCE 1ST ANNUAL MEN'S MAKEOVER CONTEST

If the man in your life is in need of a serious fashion makeover, The Paper Dolls have come to your rescue. Whether it’s you personally or a boyfriend, husband, brother or dad, let “The Dolls” resident fashionista, T.Strong work her magic while assisting to rid him of his kooky wardrobe, weird taste or low self-esteem.

“I love being able to help someone find their own fashion style; especially men, because they so often get a bad rap from females about their clothing choices. Style is more about showing your personality and being comfortable in the clothes rather than the actual look”, said T. Strong when asked what motivated her to do this type of makeover.

Although one of the main goals The Paper Dolls share is to celebrate and uplift women of every color, nationality and economic background, this doesn’t completely eliminate men from the picture as noted by the show’s creator, Dannyell Mitchell “Our listeners consist of both men and women. Most men tune in to eaves drop on what women really talk about but we welcome that proverbial fly on the wall. We continue to learn from each other’s experiences as the men also share their thoughts with us on various shows and through email.”

As one of the many exciting new things “The Dolls” have planned for their 3rd season with Blog Talk Radio, the 1st Annual Men’s Makeover is expected to garner a vast number of entries. To enter visit www.myspace.com/paperdollsonline. Contest ends midnight August 12, 2009 and the winner will be announced during The Paper Dolls weekly broadcast on August 19, 2009.

The Next 48 Hours With Redman & Method Man - Pt3

Taral Hicks in DISCIPLE

Solar Circuit Entertainment, Inc. has announced that Taral Hicks (Belly, A Bronx Tale) and newcomer Tanya Thompson have been cast to star in their new psychological thriller “Disciple”. Directed by the Clark Brothers (The Trade Off, Rebel), “Disciple” delves headfirst into the dark and menacing world of cults as public defender Billy Jean Chandler (Tanya Thompson) realizes that the murderer she is defending is indeed innocent. Billy Jean has been swept into a world wind of deception where even her best friend Angela (Taral Hicks) is a suspect and she is already in far too deep by the time she realizes what mayhem lies before her.

“Disciple” is the first feature film for production company Solar Circuit Entertainment, Inc, which was founded in 2003 by husband and wife team Eric and Tanya Thompson. After being dissatisfied with the choice of roles available to her, Tanya Thompson decided to create her own star vehicle and began putting the pieces together for “Disciple”. Tanya reached out to seasoned Director’s Wes and Heaven Clark aka “The Clark Brothers” to direct the film. The Clark Brothers are best known for their film “The Trade Off” which won the Audience Choice Award at the Long Island International Film Expo.

“As an African American actor, producer and woman, it is important for me to examine and realize that how we are depicted on screen actually mirrors our reality, Says Tanya Thompson, Co-owner of Solar Circuit Entertainment, Inc and lead actress on Disciple. “Oftentimes we are typecast in negative roles such as the angry baby-momma, the angry black female, someone just used for sex or someone who lacks knowledge and education. However, that is not all of our realities. African American women are multi-faceted individuals. We are the wife, mother, sister, aunt, best friend, but we are also the doctor, lawyer, accountant, police officer, television host, entrepreneur and the First Lady! Instead of complaining about the lack of good roles available to us, I decided to focus one (1) percent on the problem and 99% on the solution by producing and starring in a quality film I had written for myself, thereby creating my own opportunity to show us in a diverse range of roles.”
In addition, Elizabeth Ahmed (Cavier) from VH1’s hit reality show “For the Love of Ray J, Michael James (BET’s Hell Date) and comedian King Kedar have all been cast in “Disciple”.

“Disciple” is currently casting and will begin shooting in NYC in September 2009. For more information, please visitwww.disciplethemovie.com

Stax icon Teena Marie hits the charts with Congo Square

Legendary R&B trailblazer Teena Marie's new album Congo Square, her first for celebrated soul label Stax Records, sold over 18,000 copies this week to debut at #20 on Billboard's top 200 album chart and the #4 spot on the R&B Core Store album chart. The record marks the return of one of her generation's most important voices and has been incredibly well received both over the airwaves and in print. The first sultry single, "Can't Last A Day" featuring Faith Evans, is a Top 15 hit at Urban AC and continues to build, tracking top 5 spins in crucial markets like Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and New Orleans.

Congo Square is Teena's tribute to her New Orleans heritage recalling the best of the many classic artists that have influenced her along the way including Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, the Emotions and of course, Rick James. The album has received raves from the press including People Magazine, Entertainment Weekly and USA Today.

The new collection is a passionate, accessible and, as always, autobiographical adventure that cruises smoothly from southern soul and smoky jazz to dance floor funk. Along for the party are special guests , the aforementioned Faith Evans, Howard Hewett, MC Lyte, pianist George Duke, drummer/co-composer Terri Lyne Carrington, bassist Brian Bromberg and Teena's daughter Rose LeBeau.

Look for Teena live in concert this summer, demonstrating once again that she remains among the most prolific and compelling live performers in pop music. This weekend, she will perform at the West Oak Lane Festival in Philadelphia and on July 5th at the Essence Festival in New Orleans. Tee

In the video, you can catch cameo appearances by some of the industry’s top tastemakers. Thugged Out has the streets buzzing. Similar to the Chinese culture, they can be best described as the yin and the yang of rap. Very much so alike in appearance, but they bring two contrasting new styles and talents to Hip Hop. “Thugged Out” has “IT”! They stand out individually as powerful MC’s; however, combined is a definite force to be reckoned with.

J-Kwon Preps Hood Hop 2.5 for July Release, New Single Louie Bounce Out Now!

After stepping into the indie music scene with the Hood Hop 2 digital project in February, J-Kwon will unleash an entire collection of new music with Gracie Productions/EMI on July 28. The album Hood Hop 2.5 offers 13 original tracks from the St. Louis dynamo, as he offers a remix contest for budding producers and prepares a new online reality show in conjunction with the release.

J-Kwon's new single "Louie Bounce (I Smacked Nikki)" is produced by songwriter J Skillz da Bandman and features emcee Gino Green. The single is a classic J-Kwon smash giving much love to his native St. Louis. Other standout tracks on Hood Hop 2.5 include "Tipsy 09," an update of J-Kwon's smash 2004 hit "Tipsy," and "Do The Stevie" - yet another surefire dance favorite.

Now a vet in the industry at only 23-years-old, J-Kwon enjoyed formidable success while still in high school as a part of Jermaine Dupri's reign at Arista. His rough upbringing gave way to edgy lyrics that became hit songs like "Tipsy," "You & Me" and "Hood Hop" in 2004 and his collaboration with Bow Wow and Jermaine Dupri "Fresh Azimiz" in 2005. A hiatus from the hectic pace of the industry gave J-Kwon fresh insight for his future.

"I am happy to be giving my longtime fans music that excites me," explains J-Kwon. "Hood Hop 2.5 is another chapter of my growth as an artist, and I look forward to giving the my generation what they want. From party songs to lyrics about life - I can do it all. I have a long career ahead of me, and I hope the fans are ready to take this journey with me."

LOTMUSIK ALERT: DAME GREASE INTRODUCES THE THE "AUTO-TUNES"

Multi-platinum producer, instrumentalist and recording artist Dame Grease has long been known as a maverick in the music world. His raw and infectious sound defies convention and has helped to establish the careers of Hip Hop legends such as DMX, The LOX, and Swizz Beatz. The same ear that helped to build the success of those talents has now been tuned toward The Auto-Tunes, a new and innovative virtual Hip Hop group that Dame Grease has signed to his Vacant Lot imprint.

Following in the aftermath of the release of Hip Hop great Jay-Z's controversial "Death of Auto-tune" record, the new group aims to re-establish a trend of good music through animated features and music videos. "Blanket Jackson", the leader of The Auto-Tunes, stated that "[we] knew to make this project work that we would need a producer with a combination of the right talent, background and leadership to bring us together, and Grease was that producer. We're lucky to be able to be the next group that he will bring that level of success to.

Grease, whose music has sold over 50 million records worldwide, originally broke out as the producer for The LOX's "We'll Always Love Big Poppa" and DMX's smash single "Get At Me Dog." As someone who has experienced the rewards of Hip Hop, Grease still displays the same enthusiasm as when he entered the business over 10 years ago, stating "When I met Blanket we connected on a musical level and I could see he has the same focus on good music that I've carried with me throughout my career."

The first single from The Auto-Tunes is entitled "Get It Off" . The single will be released exclusively on Dame Grease's website www.damegrease.ning.com.

"Goon Music 2.Owww" will also feature appearances by Akon's artist French Montana, Max B, Sheek Louch, Freeway, Jae Millz, and the Clipse over tracks produced by Grease.

CHESTER GREGORY RELEASES "BREAKBEAT KARAOKE" 6/23

Recording Artist and Multi-award winning Broadway Star CHESTER GREGORY releases "BREAKBEAT KARAOKE" - The Mixtape on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at no cost to consumers exclusively at www.ChesterGregory.com.

BREAKBEAT KARAOKE is a collection of throwback "breakbeats" from classic hip hop tunes with remixes from songs from the debut album "In Search of High Love", in addition to new compositions specifically created for this mixtape. It features guest appearances and cameos from Farrah Burns, Phase One and Dot Da Genius who produced Day N Night by Kid Cudi among others.

"I wanted to pay tribute to some of best in hip hop like J. Dilla, De La Soul, Common, Jay-Z and DJ Premier to name a few, says Chester." "I just want it to be like the soundtrack to the summer, where you put it on and before you know it, you are just in a party zone, he adds."

CHESTER GREGORY is no stranger to the stage; an award-winning Broadway performer and acclaimed as one of the most dynamic musical theatre presences in the entertainment business - a young black man in possession of a powerful five octave voice that has elicited high praise from the late Isaac Hayes, a standing ovation from Michael Jackson and inspired Phil Collins to compose a Broadway song custom made for what his God-given instrument can do.

After several years of blowing audiences away on the "Great White Way", playing the lead in the biographical musical "The Jackie Wilson Story", key roles in "Hairspray", "Tarzan", "Cry Baby", and most recently the originator of the "Donkey" role for Dreamworks "SHREK", Chester Gregory has become a veteran of the stage. That veteran is ready to reveal to the R&B/Soul world that the regular guy behind all of those dazzling characters...is the man he faces in the mirror every day.

Gary, Indiana-native Chester Gregory grew up admiring all around entertainers ranging from King of Pop Michael Jackson to triple threat icons Sammy Davis, Jr. and Gregory Hines. Years of dedicated vocal training (surprisingly not in the church) led to a bachelors degree in Musical Theatre at Columbia College in Chicago.

In March 2009, Chester Gregory released his critically acclaimed debut album "In Search of High Love", and was able to introduce himself as a thoughtful and gifted songwriter that is blessed with a voice that just captivates and demands attention. The album was lead by the classic composition "I Only Have Eyes 4 U", written by Harry Warren and Al Dubin, in which allowed Chester to add his magical touch and give the song a different twist.

Chester Gregory (a.k.a. Chess Gregory) peels back another layer of his soul to show the world what he is truly made of. He welcomes you to his world.

Are you ready?

He really has the ability to take risks with the melody and bring something fresh to it every time he sings it. When I grow up, I want to sing like Chester Gregory!!!" -Phil Collins

Zakiya Hooker "Keeps It Real" in North and South America with New CD Release

When a woman sings the blues it is the most natural rhythm on the planet. Who else to better to know and express the anguish of love and pain or the rollercoaster ride of joy and despair than a woman who has the full experience of marriage, the intimate knowledge of motherhood and the intuitive gift of survival at her fingertips.

Zakiya Hooker brings all this to the table and more with the June 16 release of her fourth CD "Keeping It Real," produced by her husband, Ollan Bell, on their independent label, Boogie with the Hook Records distributed by BDC Distribution. As the daughter of the late, great blues icon, John Lee Hooker, who better to keep it real than Zakiya? The blues sangin' songtress literally has the music flowin' through her veins.

"Keeping It Real" is a jazzy, sassy, soulful serenade of thirteen tracks that span the spectrum of the landscape of the blues. Produced and recorded mostly in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Ollan spent the last five years there gathering the finest musicians to record music and vocals before coming back to their home studio, John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom Studio, where Zakiya laid her final vocals. The results are an expansive project that find her not only performing a duet with her dad, but also covering a few classics and ultimately, singing the blues in Spanish!

"Keeping It Real" does just that with the opening track "Hug U Kiss U," an upbeat, uptempo, bass heavy cover of a John Lee Hooker original. On "Cold, Cold Feeling" penned by Zakiya with her husband Bell, she slows the pace way down with a blues notion of love lost and gone astray. With "Desconfio" Zakiya proves that she is not new to the blues, but indeed true to the blues, offering her own Spanish language rendition of the Latin American classic.

The vocals of the late John Lee Hooker himself provide the lead segue for the haunting "End of the World Blues," on track six. While covering one of her dad's most famous tunes, "One Bourbon One Scotch One Beer" Zakiya rocks with the assuredness of one who knows her roots and knows them well! She takes us "Over the Top" with a purity of tone that simply cradles the heart with emotion on track eleven. Then Zakiya all but shuts it down on the last track when she joins her late dad for a duet on "Rock These Blues Away."

The Detroit native made her debut performance in 1991 with her dad in Oakland, CA. She has since gone on to perform and record internationally, establishing her own voice in a genre dominated by men. A loyal advocate of the blues, Zakiya is committed to preserving the legacy that nourished her. In addition to touring internationally, she is a spoken word performer advocating the original American art form.

"When I tell you that the blues knows no color, no language, no barrier, I am speaking from experience. "Keeping It Real" has a cast of some of the best musicians in Buenos Aires. This project spanned both North and South America. And though the language was an issue at times, the universal poetry of the blues transcended everything. And that is what keeping it real is really all about," reveals Zakiya.

Zakiya Hooker is a regal combination of sass and soul. "Keeping It Real" is a defining contribution to her legacy as a woman singing the blues. You can keep it real with Zakiya Hooker at www.ZakiyaHooker.com .

Honey I’m Home is Sure’s first studio-release in over 15 years since he originally made his mark as one of New Jack Swing’s most popular romantic singers and producers. Fans can pre-order the highly anticipated CD at http://www.hiddenbeach.com/albsure.

Honey I’m Home is a musical biography that tells a romantic journey of love, romance and relationships. The 12-track CD features 10 original songs, all written and co-produced by Sure, including the first single “I Love It (Papi Aye Aye Aye),” which impacted radio May 11 as the #2 most added record on R&R and is currently available on iTunes. The sensual slow jam was co-produced by Al’s longtime writing and producing partner Kyle West and features world renowned cellist Tina Guo.

Once word hit the music industry that Sure was working on a new CD, other top hit makers eagerly came forward to work with “ABS!” including producer/songwriter Michael Mani, who co-produced the album’s infectious mid-tempo “Top Of Your Lungs,” the heartfelt “Never Stop Loving You,” and the Sting cover, “Fragile.” Al focused his rendition of “Fragile” to compliment Sting’s original crafting of the song as “a classic song that evokes passion and emotion.” Sure also covered “Lady In My Life,” to pay tribute to his long lasting relationship with Quincy Jones, Rod Temperton and his love for Michael Jackson’s artistry.

Al’s signature hit “Nite and Day,” reached the Top 10 of the Billboard R&B and Pop charts in 1988 and is from his debut multi-platinum selling album, In Effect Mode, which topped the Billboard R&B chart for seven straight weeks.

Since Al B. Sure!’s debut, he has had 15 singles reach the top of the Billboard charts, including “Off On Your Own Girl,” “Rescue Me,” “Misunderstanding,” and has received several Grammy nominations; American Music Award nominations, for which he won an AMA for Best New R&B Artist; Soul Train Music Award for Best New Artist; several New York Music Awards; and more than thirty-five ASCAP Awards for writing and composition performance.

While it’s been fifteen years since the Grammy nominee made his last studio album, Sure has remained a constant relevant source in music as a writer and producer, working with multi-platinum acts such as David Bowie, Richie Sambora, Faith Evans, Rod Stewart, Dave Hollister, Usher, among many others. It was his work as a writer and producer that led him to his new label, Hidden Beach Recordings, home of Grammy® winner and multi-platinum selling artist Jill Scott and the current release, “Change Is Now,” the first-ever Presidential Inauguration CD compilation.

“I felt Hidden Beach was the perfect fit for me as an artist because they respect the artistry of songwriting, as I do,” explains Sure. “I wanted this album to reflect the variety of emotions that people experience in their day-to-day struggles in maintaining relationships. More importantly, I wanted to bring romance back to music.”

**New Single** LAFONDA "Don't Need A Co-sign"

With the indie success of her debut EP, “Go Hard or Go Home,” in the review mirror Underground Music Award-winning R&B singer Lafonda is raising the bar with the release of her second independent EP titled “Don’t Need a Cosign” on August 18.

The Bronx Bombshell showcases the maturity of her melodic voice and choreographed dances behind beats of producers like Plaboy-Chi and Drawzilla. Lafonda’s first single also titled “Don’t Need a Cosign” is produced by Chi and highlights the dual-concept that people, and artists, don't need validation from others in their day-to-day lives to be comfortable with whom they are and what they do in life.

“I wanted to put together a well-rounded EP that spoke to the pressures placed on everyday people to be ‘this or to be that,’ whether it’s in their professional lives or personal lives, and the insecurities that manifest themselves as a result of those pressures,” says Lafonda. “Ultimately you know your worth and don’t need validation from those not living the consequences of your decisions.”

The depth of the EP is also displayed on songs like the ballad “One Question” which showcase the songstress’ increased vocal range and the female anthem “Ain’t No Competition” where Lafonda’s dusts her shoulders off and demonstrates her moxie.

Lafonda is a winner of the 2006 Underground Music Award’s “Best R&B Female Artist.” Last year, she also won three Underground Indie Awards for “Best Female Solo,” “Best Female Performer,” and “Best R&B Female Artist.” The heralded singer has also appeared on BET’s 106 & Park, MSG TV, MTV3 and countless of print and online publications.

With the release of “Don’t Need a Cosign” this Summer, the Bronx Bombshell is set to engulf the music industry in her glow.

Don’t Need a Cosign will be available for free download. To hear more music from Lafonda visit Myspace.com/lafondaforever and Imeem.com/thereallafonda

Grammy Award Nominated/368 Music Group/JIVE Records Recording Artist, Raheem Devaughn, Gives Emotional Stimulus Package with "Art Of Noise" Mixtape

On January 20, 2009, President Obama stated in his inaugural address to the world that, “The success of our economy has always depended… on the reach of our prosperity; on the ability to extend opportunity to every willing heart -- not out of charity, but because it is the surest route to our common good.” Grammy Nominated, JIVE Records Recording Artist Raheem DeVaughn has answered this call to action in his own unique way. The Art of Noise is DeVaughn’s latest mix CD project, with more than 15 original, unreleased tracks through his recently launched record label venture, 368 MUSIC GROUP. The Art of Noise will be available for free via download at www.368musicgroup.com, in addition to various online sites on June 15, 2009.

Raheem DeVaughn, the self-proclaimed, R&B Hippie Neo Soul Rock Star, has received numerous accolades and recognition for his smooth, soulful sound. While Raheem is known for his love songs, he has a passion for bringing awareness to social and political issues that affect all people. Raheem DeVaughn has even been called the modern day Marvin Gaye by some, because of his style of weaving strong conscious messages in his music while still captivating his audience. He sees the current world climate as an issue that we all must take seriously. Thus his feels obligated to use his talent to raise awareness to the possibilities for change. “These are difficult times we are living in and everyone is affected, directly or indirectly. We all know someone that has lost a job, a house, or simply struggling just to make ends meet. If we all do a little, no one has to do a lot,” says DeVaughn.

Raheem DeVaughn feels that the entertainment industry has a responsibility to the people to give something back. “This current climate that we live in, affects me too. If my fans lose their jobs and their homes, and can’t put food on the table, they definitely cannot buy my music. They should not have to make that choice. Many of my fans tell me that they love me and I’ve always said that I love them back. This is my way of showing them that love. I want to show love to my fans by giving them the Raheem DeVaughn music that they want,” says DeVaughn.

Raheem DeVaughn has released two albums under Jive Records, his first project, The Love Experience, released in 2005. His sophomore project, Love Behind the Melody, released in 2008 and came in #5 on the Billboard Top 200 and #1 Top R&B/HipHop Albums. DeVaughn has received high awards and honors including a 2008 Grammy nomination for Best Male Vocal Performance for “Woman” and a 2009 Grammy nomination for Best R&B Song “Customer” (both from his sophomore work). The highly anticipated Art of Noise will be released on June 15, 2009. With this new project, DeVaughn aims to introduce his music to a broader audience while offering his fans a worthy teaser as they await his highly anticipated third album, The Love and War MasterPeace, due out later this year.

GRAND PUBA (BRAND NUBIAN) TALKS ABOUT GOLDEN ERA DAYS IN THE STUDIO WITH LORD JAMAR

July 15 and 17 Grammy Nominated Reggae Icon Beres Hammond performs in Brooklyn

Raising the bar to a higher level, Jamaican musical legend and Grammy nominated singer Beres Hammond performed to sold-out venues less than a year ago. From July 1 to August 30th, he will make his second trek across the United States and Canada for his highly anticipated encore tour. This tour will further elevate his status as the pre-eminent figure in reggae today. Fans can look forward to hearing his timeless classics as well as current hits from his VP Records album A Moment In Time released late last year.

Known to many as the originator of “Lover’s Rock” or the “Otis Redding of Reggae,” Beres Hammond has been writing, producing and pouring out his smoky-sweet voice over every kind of riddim track for over three decades. He has repeatedly sold out some of the country’s largest and most prestigious venues (Theatre at Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall). He has paved the way for many musicians today and is a favorite of Wyclef Jean, Carl Thomas and Alicia Keys.

From his early days as the lead singer of the ‘70s funk-reggae infused band Zap Pow, Beres has consistently produced hits and number one singles. While newcomers today are searching for a breakthrough hit and old timers are plotting their comeback, Beres is a study in longevity. He released his first studio album, Soul Reggae in 1976 spawning the number one hit “One Step Ahead” and in 1985 the dancehall breakthrough “What One Dance Can Do” off his self entitled album. He has collaborated with Reggae’s elite—Marcia Griffiths and Buju Banton who are virtually staples on any Beres tour—and has worked with legendary producers Willie Lindo, Steely and Clevie, and Philip “Fattis” Burrell, to name a few. In 1990, his album A Love Affair from Donovan Germain's Penthouse label raised his popularity to new heights. Cuts like “Tempted To Touch” and “Who Say” with Buju Banton are still huge in the dancehall today. During the ‘90s, Beres blazed a trail of modern classics for a variety of producers, from the strugglers' anthem “Putting Up Resistance” (Tappa) to lovers' laments like “Come Back Home” (Star Trail). In 2001, Beres brought us major hits like “They Gonna Talk” and “Rock Away” from his Grammy nominated album Music is Life. VP Records then released The Ultimate Collection: Can’t Stop A Man in 2003 to commemorate Hammond’s career, and his 2004 album Love Has No Boundaries, which featured his familiar romantic ballads and mid-tempo dancehall grooves.

E1 Music to release "Chamber Music" - Wu Tang Clan

New York stand up! Staten Island put one fist in the air! On Tuesday, June 30th, 2009 E1 Music is set to release CHAMBER MUSIC, a brand new project from the Wu-Tang which pairs original Clan MCs with classics ‘90s rap veterans.

The project is Executive Produced by RZA.

CHAMBER MUSIC features: Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, RZA, U-God and Inspectah Deck, plus affiliate Killah Priest, alongside classic hip hop MCs such as AZ, Havoc (Mobb Deep), Cormega, Kool G Rap, Masta Ace, Sadat X (Brand Nubian) and Sean Price (Heltah Skeltah).

The return-to-form sound of CHAMBER MUSIC is the album hardcore Wu-Tang fans have waited years for.

CHAMBER MUSIC’s throw-back sound is inspired by classic soul and kung fu imagery. It features a combination of new beats and live instrumentation by Brooklyn soul band The Revelations (all supervised by RZA) shaped in a classic vibe, reminiscent of the group’s 36 Chambers album but with a completely updated, modern twist.

Wu Tang supreme architect RZA weighs in, “This album has a very live element of today’s musicians playing the vibe of Wu-Tang, know what I mean? The vibe we would normally sample, the vibe of things that we would accumulate through old soul songs, jazz songs, kung fu movies whatever, now you’ve got musicians that can play this vibe with Wu-Tang MC’s rapping over it. The goal of this album is definitely paying homage to our early sound. In the old days, we had to sample and find snares and things like that or chord changes just to make a beat. Now, this is being done it with a band. A lot of times, you hear rappers over a live band and that loses the hip-hop because a lot of those bands from the old days wasn’t from the hip-hop generation. On this album, we make it sound like it was in the 36 Chambers era. To me, what also adds to this album, you’ve got the Wu-Tang MCs but you also got your other favorite MCs from that era like Havoc, Cormega and others. This album can be played with a live band and it will sound BIG.”

The album’s first focus track “Harbor Masters” featuring Ghostface, AZ and Inspectah Deck brings back that gutter real hip hop from back in the day.

Robertson to Make Children's Book Debut

Best-selling author Gil Robertson has signed with Just Us Books – the premiere publisher of Black-interest books for children – to release his debut children’s book, 21st Century African American Political Leaders. Slated for a February 2010 release, the book series will provide children ages 9 – 14, with inspirational biographical sketches on the lives of 24 contemporary African American political leaders.

A respected, veteran A&E journalist, Robertson is the editor of the best-selling 2006 anthology, Not in My Family: AIDS in the African American Community, which was nominated for both a NAACP Image Award and an African American Literary Award in the “Best Non-Fiction” category. His most recent book, Family Affair: What it Means to be African American Today, was released to stellar reviews including a “Pick of the Week” selection from renowned Publisher’s Weekly.

I think that 21st Century African Americans in Politics will fill a void in modern day children books by introducing young people to political leaders, who like President Obama are making new strides in American politics,” says Carolyn L. Garnes, a member of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association and former Chair Coretta Scott Book Award Committee. “There is simply not enough information on the accomplishments and achievement of African Americans in politics, so this project will be a very valuable resource to students and adults.”

From Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick to Newark, NJ Mayor Corey Booker, the series will spotlight the histories of each politician as they make strides in the social and governmental fabric of America. 21st Century African American Political Leaders will cover the early lives and professional accomplishments of these leaders who represent the new vanguard in American politics. The title will also include historical-fact sidebars and a bibliography as an educational supplement.

21st Century African Americans in Politics will retail in paperback and will be available for purchase at the Just Us Books online bookstore at www.justusbooks.com, and via retailers nationwide. For more information on Gil Robertson, visit www.robertsontreatment.com and www.gilspeaks.net.

EMI’S NEW 22 YEAR OLD PRINCE OF R&B BROUGHT YOU “LET’S RIDE” FEAT. JADAKISS EARLIER THIS YEAR & HE’S BACK

R&B newcomer Josh X-an-tus is wowing audiences across the nation with his new single, “First Time,” from his highly anticipated debut album, Can I Live. The classically trained pianist already has a major buzz about him thanks to his single, “Let’s Ride,” with rapper Jadakiss. The hood love anthem was featured as one of the top ten favorite videos on MTV. X-an-tus is now slowing it down with a beautiful ballad about the blossoming of young love and making love for the first time, which will prove he has the talent to keep the hit song momentum going. He has even been traveling across the country performing it live for radio program directors and their listening audience, demonstrating that real artists and musicians still exist. X-an-tus is sure most people will be able to relate to, “First Time.”

“The song is about all those wonderful emotions you feel when you’re with someone special, and it’s your very first time. As people get older, they forget what that felt like and begin to take the experience for granted. I wanted to create a song that gives them a reason to remember,” says X-an-tus. X-an-tus recently shot the video for “First Time” In Los Angeles under the direction of Juwan Lee. He also wrote, composed and produced many of the other songs on Can I Live, which chronicles his life.

“The album is a novel set to music. It’s the story of my life as I worked to get my deal. The songs talk about love, family, disappointments and triumph,” says the native New Yorker. “Being a young person in today’s society is very hard with all the issues we have to face that generation before us didn’t have to deal with. However, you have to remain positive while overcoming your obstacles. In life you make choices and whatever choice you make you have to ask yourself if you can live with it. So, I entitled the album Can I Live.”

Now X-an-tus is living his dream thanks to the foresight of his mother, who urged him to take piano lessons, and now the support and guidance of his label, M USA Entertainment/EMI. The 22-year-old is currently on a radio promotions tour and is excited about taking his music to audiences around the globe.
