HIPHOP PIONEER GRANDMASTERFLASH TO BE HONORED AT THE PRESTIGIOUS URBAN MUSIC AWARDS IN NEW YORK CITY

Over 175,000 music fans across the world have voted for HipHop pioneer musician and legendary DJ, Grandmasterflash to receive the coveted prestigious UMA Living Legend Award at the Urban Music Awards USA 2009 which would take place in New York City at the Highline Ballroom in Manhattan on the 17th of July 2009.

C.E.O of Invincible Group & Founder of the Urban Music Awards Jordan Kensington commented “Flash is an absolute legend and he remains an inspiration to the hip hop culture all together by flying the flag from its inception to the success it has become today. The Urban Music Awards fans across countries even as far as Japan, Africa, United Kingdom, Dubai, Caribbean, and throughout America have voted Flash to receive this people’s choice award which goes to show how much of an impact Grandmasterflash has made worldwide”

Nominees were announced last week with an international press conference which took place simultaneously in over 7 countries. Amy Winehouse, Rihanna, Bobby Valentino, M.I.A, Day 26, The Dream, Estelle, Kat de Luna, Akon, Kanye West, Keri Hilson, Ghetts, Kid Cudi, Tinchy Stryder, Neyo, Eminem, spear head nominations

The UMA’s will be held on the 17th of July 2009 in New York City and will be attended by more than Artists, DJs, producers, promoters, record labels executives, celebrities from the world of music, radio, TV, sports and music fans from across the country. True to tradition, the public will rule and stars will rejoice with them.

Akon & Bobby Valentino grab triple nominations this year whilst Neyo , J. Holiday, The Dream, Keri Hilson, Musiq Soulchild, Jazmine Sullivan and previous UMA winner Estelle bag double nominations.

On receiving the UMA Living Legend award 2009, Grandmasterflash said “I am honored to receive this award and I can’t wait to attend the awards show in July. The Urban Music Awards is different from all other awards shows because it represents the whole world. Our music is mainstream and we have to connect with our fans from all around the world to build an even bigger community so thank you to all my fans worldwide and the UMA for this opportunity”.

Grandmasterflash who was originally born in Barbados also joins fellow Barbados superstar, Rihanna who leads the pack with a phenomenal comeback. The singer is up for four awards – Artist of the Year, Best R&B Act, Best Female Act and Best Music Video for single ‘Rehab’.
