1ST ANNUAL STEVE HARVEY FOUNDATION GALA HONORING ACADEMY AWARD WINNER

DENZEL WASHINGTON

May 3rd Gala To Support Community Change and Youth Mentoring

ATLANTA, GA (March 22, 2010) - On May 3 2010, multi-faceted entertainer Steve Harvey and co-host Robin Roberts of Good Morning America will honor Academy Award winning actor/director Denzel Washington, Geoffrey Canada of the Harlem Children's Zone and Pam El of State Farm Insurance for their commitment to educating children and their passionate advocacy for change in communities. This invitation-only night of unforgettable entertainment and support will be held at Cipriani Wall Street.

As a world-renowned actor, screenwriter, director and film producer, Denzel Washington is the longtime spokesperson for the Boys & Girls Club of America, and also published a bestseller called A Hand to Guide Me, which featured actors, politicians, athletes and other public figures recalling their childhood mentors. Geoffrey Canada is President & CEO of the Harlem Children's Zone, which offers a network of programs to thousands of children and families in Central Harlem. Pam El, Marketing Vice President, has consistently been in the forefront to ensure that State Farm continues to find ways to improve the quality of life not just of their customers, but of the entire community by bringing together various programs, including The 50 Million Pound Challenge and The Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men.

"Honoring Denzel Washington, Geoffrey Canada, and Pam El is a no-brainer," says Harvey. "For so many years, Denzel Washington, Geoffrey Canada and Pam El have been shining examples of leadership not only inspiring all of us, but also changing the lives of future generations. There's no price you can put on the tireless work they've done for children, for education and changing our communities. Robin Roberts has also been a tremendous source of positivity and inspiration, and I can't wait to see what the night brings with both of us hosting!"

Proceeds from the gala will specifically support the Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men. Harvey created this program to break the misguided traits of manhood and to begin to create a generation of men who will one day become responsible husbands and fathers.

Hosting the inaugural Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men during Father's Day Weekend in 2009, Harvey brought 100 teenage boys and their guardians from around the country to his ranch in Dallas. Filled with special guests, camping experiences and mentoring programs, the weekend's goal is to teach the Principles of Manhood to young men so that they may one day achieve their dreams, become better citizens and better men who are emotionally, politically and economically strong. The program's success inspired Harvey to expand his mission nationwide and create 10 satellite mentoring programs this year in New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Tampa, Washington DC, Charlotte, Detroit, Philadelphia, New Orleans and Shreveport. This year's Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men will take place in Dallas, June 17th -20th with sponsorship from American Airlines, State Farm, The Home Depot, Hillshire Farm, Glory Foods, Sam's Club, Budget, FBI, Choice Hotels, 21st Century Foundation, Soft Sheen Carson, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Kmart. Several of last year's participants will return this year to serve as junior counselors.
