Grammy Award Winning Producer Doc Ish To Release The First Treatment
THE FIRST TREATMENT WILL BE RELASED ON MAY 11th, 2010
Star-Studded LP Features Appearances From Jay Electronica, Joe Budden, Crooked I, Sean Price, Joell Ortiz, Talib Kweli, Bun B, Max B, Saigon, Nipsey Hussle, KRS-One, Kool G Rap, Buckshot, Bizarre and many more
A bit of a transient, Doc Ish is from a little bit of everywhere. Born in Dallas, TX, then onto places such as Virginia, and Brooklyn NY and everywhere in between, it has been Hartford, CN that Doc has always returned to and calls home. Doc signed his first deal as a senior in High-School and soon thereafter moved to NY where he was introduced to a slew of industry talents and had the opportunity to work with artists such Heavy D, Kurupt and Foxy Brown to name a few.
Since then, Doc has lost a lot of time, “years,” in regards to his music career. For years, he was jumping from doctor to doctor, hospital to hospital, trying to figure out why his health would take such dramatic shifts and leave him in an almost debilitating state. Lying in hospital beds, with nothing but time on his hands while his various health problems were both diagnosed and treated, Doc’s health eventually got better and when it did, so did his hunger for making music. When Doc re-entered the scene in 2008, he did so with a renewed vigor and his networking lead to meetings with various artists, one of which, D-12’s Bizarre, would eventually change his world as he then knew it upside down. After recording sessions with Bizarre, Doc received a call from him that a certain Detroit superstar heard one of his tracks and immediately gravitated to it. That track was what you know as “We Made You” the lead-single from Eminem’s Grammy award winning LP Relapse, which has since gone 2X Platinum and re-vaulted Eminem back into the national spotlight after a five-year hiatus.
Despite the overwhelming changes that have occurred since “We Made You” hit the masses, Doc Ish has remained humble and hungry throughout the process and is determined to capitalize on the opportunity and use it as a stepping-stone. The timing and subsequent spotlight that has been affixed to Doc’s back ever since was ideal for the forthcoming release of Doc Ish Presents: The First Treatment which will be released on 5-11-2010.
The First Treatment includes a collection of iconic and legendary emcees that would make a major label blush, let alone one of an Independent nature. While “Cut My Throat” f/Saigon, INS Deck, Ransom and Quan has already made an immediate impact on the urban blogosphere, fans are already salivating over the LP’s assortment of talent and eagerly awaiting to hear tracks such as the dream-team pairings of Jay Electronica, Crooked I & Sean Price (“She Did It Again”) and Bun B, Joe Budden and Talib Kweli on “Is It A Dream.”
Doc Ish believes that music is cathartic and creating this project proves as much and The First Treatment is the next step in curing Hip-Hop’s ailments.

Singer/Songwriter Darnell Levine Heads On SESAC Sponsored Tour
SINGER/SONGWRITER/PRODUCER, DARNELL LEVINE, ANNOUNCES 12-CITY TOUR AS PRECURSOR TO NEW SINGLE RELEASE FORMAT |
The SESAC sponsored tour will bring high energy and excitement to packed out venues while etching another notch on Levine’s touring and performing ‘belt’ Nashville, TN —Imagine a unique hybrid of a young Al Jarreau, mixed with the swag of Ryan Leslie, live shows packed with the intensity of Janelle Monae, and the engaging body instrumentation similar to Bobby McFerrin (“Don’t Worry, Be Happy”). The unapologetically talented Darnell Levine is a culmination of quality music that makes one long for more; with a blend of R&B, soul, and a hint of jazz. Along with his 6-piece band, Levine is hitting the road to share his energy and musical genius with the world as he announces The Tour. Sponsored by SESAC, the 12-city U.S. tour will begin in Baltimore, MD on April 22 and end back in Nashville, TN on May 31. As an emerging artist Levine delivers a musical escape as listeners are engaged in his honest vocal delivery, strong sense of melody, and lyrical balance. Levine’s music speaks for itself and evokes a variety of emotions which are rarely all found in one place. His live show is indeed ‘all the way live’ as he has fans on their feet, rocking in their chair, and head bobbing. “I wanted to create a show where people would be into the music like no one was watching.” The Louisville, KY native and Music City based singer, songwriter, and producer has been been absorbed in music since a young age, later adding trained percussionist and self-taught pianist to his repertoire. Like many soulful singers, Levine began in church and school choirs but credits most of his musical “schooling” from listening to the Bee Gees, Ray Charles, The Carpenters, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Sam Cooke, and Luther Vandross during long family trips. During The Tour, Levine will feature songs from his 2006 debut album We Gon’ Use What We Got along with his 2007 and 2008 EP releases, Press Record: Live EPone and Journal Entries. Darnell will also gauge the audience on some of his newest tracks including latest singles, “So Nice to Be Loved” and “Monique”. “It is important to me that the fans love the music. Sometimes I work alone, right now I want to work with my fans to create the magic. If they like it live, they will probably like it in their stereos too. |
Darnell is also a forward thinking artist, starting a simple hashtag trend on twitter, #IAMMUSIC, that has evolved to much more. Called “A Lifetime Trend”, #IAMMUSIC is a platform for artists and fans to support good music virally and inspire a lifestyle that becomes the music, the inspiration, the art. Levine has also created a new artist release system known as the Single Release Format. Using this format, he will release a new single from his latest unreleased album every several months throughout 2010 & 2011. “I feel like each song needs it’s just due both virally and physically, and fans don’t have to be so pressured to listen to me all at once. I’m a slow burn." He’ll be releasing premier free downloadable mixtapes and tour consistently throughout the next two years to cultivate his strong and steady following both nationally and internationally. The Tour will add an additional stamp to Levine’s extensive musical passport. With a new single, “So Nice To Be Loved”, the #IAMMUSIC platform, and a U.S. Spring Tour, Darnell Levine is positioning himself to be the ‘Artist to Watch’ in 2010. 2010 BROOKLYN HIP-HOP FESTIVAL EXPANDS TO FULL WEEK
The new weeklong format features a showcase of independent local, national and international talent, panels, film, theater, and of course Main Day performances, and the Family Day Block Party. All events are held throughout Brooklyn from Williamsburg to DUMBO.
Organizers are especially proud to be returning to the Brooklyn waterfront as it is being transformed into New York's premier park space. "We have been fortunate enough to host the Festival along the beautiful Brooklyn coast line since our second year [2006]. When the word came down that our home, Empire Fulton Ferry State Park was being closed for renovation we began to work closely with Regina Meyer and the good people at The Brooklyn Bridge Development Corporation. I am excited that not only are we returning to the Tobacco Warehouse for our Main Day, July 10th but have also added Brooklyn Bridge Plaza and New Dock Street. This increased space will allow us to produce two separate stages as well as build a large marketplace for our vendors."

Basic Vocab- A Better Way
After Reaching Mainstream Success With “Come Get With It,” Basic Vocab Returns With A Better Way Featuring Appearances From Tanya Morgan’s Donwill & Jesse Boykins III
LP In-Stores April 13th, 2010
Basic Vocab (consisting of Miami, FL natives Mental Growth, JL Sorrell, Tony Galvin) used their debut, The General Dynamic, (2006) as a platform to fully introduce and integrate themselves with the Hip-hop populous at large; and introduce themselves they did with “Come Get With It” as it was featured on Season #5 of HBO’s runaway smash series Entourage and also appeared in an episode of Miami Ink and the group was also featured in esteemed print publications such as Vibe, Urb, The Ave, Elemental, Hip Hop Connection, XLR8R, Miami Herald and were predominantly featured on many of the top Urban Net destinations.
While Basic Vocab continues to climb the Rap hierarchy, the group’s sound architect, Tony Galvin already has a few Platinum plaques on his wall, as he has produced hit singles for Trick Daddy (“Shut Up”) and Trina (“Baddest Bitch”) and produced tracks for Cee Lo, T.I. (“You Know Who”), Young Jeezy (“Show You What It Is”) and T.I. and Nelly’s “Show It To Me”; Tony’s work with T.I. earned him a production deal with T.I.’s Grand Hustle/Atlantic imprint.
One of the most talented upstart producers in Hip-hop, its Tony’s versatility that sets him apart, as his ability to craft and shift from mainstream to golden age headnodders is seamless and rather then make artists conform to one particular style, Tony is able to craft beats that fully compliment the artists he is working with; and that again rings true on A Better Way.
JL Sorell and Mental Growth once again offer a bold and topically diverse subject matter, delving into politically tinged themes, relationship odes (“Why You Do Me Like That”) and feel good party (”There You Are” f/Don Will, “Prescription,” “Just Dance”) starting vibes turning them into a contemporary and utterly refreshing sound with A Better Way. Tracks such as “Prescription” and “There You Are” f/ Don Will have already gained traction and been featured on outlets such as 2Dopeboyz.com, Myspace Music, Onsmash.com, Hiphopdx.com, DJBooth.net, Hiphopgame.com etc.
Ready to reclaim the buzz that was generated from their debut, Basic Vocab returns On April 13th, 2010 with their sophomore LP, A Better Way, and returns in a very good space and very confident in the music they are creating, as Mental Growth confirms “I was in a very good place while recording A Better Way and I’m very proud of this project. Though we will still raise the decibels and violate some noise ordnances with the LP, we also ventured out more artistically and filled some topical voids as well.” Similarly, JL Sorrell offers more insight into the group’s direction “From the music to the lyrics, it was a concerted effort, and we had fun making it- that’s the most important thing. I feel this album is something that is missing from hip-hop right now, its modern music with an old school feel.”
