Taral Hicks in DISCIPLE

Solar Circuit Entertainment, Inc. has announced that Taral Hicks (Belly, A Bronx Tale) and newcomer Tanya Thompson have been cast to star in their new psychological thriller “Disciple”. Directed by the Clark Brothers (The Trade Off, Rebel), “Disciple” delves headfirst into the dark and menacing world of cults as public defender Billy Jean Chandler (Tanya Thompson) realizes that the murderer she is defending is indeed innocent. Billy Jean has been swept into a world wind of deception where even her best friend Angela (Taral Hicks) is a suspect and she is already in far too deep by the time she realizes what mayhem lies before her.

“Disciple” is the first feature film for production company Solar Circuit Entertainment, Inc, which was founded in 2003 by husband and wife team Eric and Tanya Thompson. After being dissatisfied with the choice of roles available to her, Tanya Thompson decided to create her own star vehicle and began putting the pieces together for “Disciple”. Tanya reached out to seasoned Director’s Wes and Heaven Clark aka “The Clark Brothers” to direct the film. The Clark Brothers are best known for their film “The Trade Off” which won the Audience Choice Award at the Long Island International Film Expo.

“As an African American actor, producer and woman, it is important for me to examine and realize that how we are depicted on screen actually mirrors our reality, Says Tanya Thompson, Co-owner of Solar Circuit Entertainment, Inc and lead actress on Disciple. “Oftentimes we are typecast in negative roles such as the angry baby-momma, the angry black female, someone just used for sex or someone who lacks knowledge and education. However, that is not all of our realities. African American women are multi-faceted individuals. We are the wife, mother, sister, aunt, best friend, but we are also the doctor, lawyer, accountant, police officer, television host, entrepreneur and the First Lady! Instead of complaining about the lack of good roles available to us, I decided to focus one (1) percent on the problem and 99% on the solution by producing and starring in a quality film I had written for myself, thereby creating my own opportunity to show us in a diverse range of roles.”
In addition, Elizabeth Ahmed (Cavier) from VH1’s hit reality show “For the Love of Ray J, Michael James (BET’s Hell Date) and comedian King Kedar have all been cast in “Disciple”.

“Disciple” is currently casting and will begin shooting in NYC in September 2009. For more information, please visitwww.disciplethemovie.com
