DUBOSE MUSIC GROUP SIGNS MC LYTE AS EXECUTIVE VICE-PRESIDENT

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usMC Lyte has joined DuBose Music Group, a division of DuBose Entertainment, as Executive Vice President of the burgeoning music entity. James DuBose, CEO of DuBose Entertainment announced that the recording artist, writer and Hip Hop legend has been tapped to shepherd DMG’s talent acquisitions and artist development.

"Lyte is a rap music icon and music scholar with a wealth of industry connections and an extensive knowledge of urban music," said DuBose. "With Lyte at the helm, DMG is perfectly positioned to usher in the next generation of artists and influence a new generation of music fans.”

As her first major deal since joining DMG, Lyte announced the signing of Tenille Johnson, a fresh, young 20-year-old singer-songwriter, who writes about relationships, love, love lost and possesses a confident and alluring style that has just the right amount of sexy.  The Atlanta native has already completed recording several titles for her debut album.

“At DMG, we will provide artists like Tenille a platform to showcase their talent and to grow into bona fide R&B superstars,” said Lyte. “I’m thrilled to be working with DuBose to bring soul music to music lovers young and old.”

Also set to release later this year, DMG will distribute Lyte’s latest CD under the current working title “The Second Coming.” The upcoming CD reflects the influence of Brooklyn’s West Indian culture on the Brooklyn native and delivers on the hard potent lyrics for the “Lyte as a Rock” fans.

Though this will be her first role calling the shots at a music label, Lyte has been making a name for herself in music since her first full length album “Lyte as a Rock” was released in 1988. She is considered to be a female rap music icon that blazed the trail for future female rappers such as Queen Latifah and Missy Elliot.  Lyte is also known as one of the first female rappers to lyrically take on the rampant sexism and misogyny that predominates hip hop. In an interesting twist on the old adage of “life imitating art,” Lyte portrayed a hip music executive on the UPN series “Half n Half” for three years.

RICK ROSS SCORES THIRD CONSECUTIVE #1 SOUNDSCAN DEBUT WITH "DEEPER THAN RAP"

Def Jam recording artist Rick Ross steamrolls the competition to launch his new Maybach Music label, as DEEPER THAN RAP, his third album debuts at #1 Soundscan on 157,544 first week sales in the physical and digital marketplace. This marks Rick’s third consecutive triumph, following up Port Of Miami (his 2006 debut) and Trilla (2008) – both of which entered the Soundscan chart at #1 with nearly 200,000 first week sales each, both subsequently certified RIAA gold.

DEEPER THAN RAP has just spun off a brand new single, “All I Really Want” featuring fellow Def Jam artist The-Dream, co-written and produced by Tricky Stewart. Ross & The-Dream recently traveled to Medellin, Columbia to shoot a lavish video for the track. “All I Really Want” will premiere on BET with an “Access Granted” special on May 6th. Ross launched DEEPER THAN RAP with week-of-release performances on BET 106 & Park and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and will appear on The Late Show with David Letterman on May 14th.

“All I Really Want” follows DEEPER THAN RAP’s first single pick, “Magnificent” featuring John Legend, which broke inside the Top 5 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts and Hot Rap Tracks chart. “Magnificent” was produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League. J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League helmed four songs on Trilla, and four more tracks on DEEPER THAN RAP including the highly anticipated “Maybach Music Part 2” featuring Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne. “Maybach Music Part 2” is the attention-grabbing sequel to Trilla’s “Maybach Music” (featuring Jay-Z).

DEEPER THAN RAP also boasts three tracks produced by The Runners; while The Inkredibles add their hitmaking prowess to the new album as well. There are also productions by BIGG D, Bink, and Drumma Boy.

Rick Ross rose from ruling Miami’s underground rap scene, to become 2006’s buzz-worthiest hip-hop artist with Port Of Miami, his #1 Pop/#1 R&B/#1 Rap major label debut album. Its unstoppable single “Hustlin’” became the first mastertone ever certified platinum by the RIAA for sales of 1 million copies before the associated album had even been released. A remix was subsequently issued, featuring Jay-Z and Young Jeezy. Port Of Miami’s second single was “Push It,” whose movie soundtrack excerpts (circa 1990) from Giorgio Moroder’s “Scarface (Push It To The Limit),” evoked the gritty soul of a city that is always on the edge of exploding.

Six-foot-two, 300-pound Rick Ross – a “hip-hop heavyweight,” as described by the New York Times – came into his own on Trilla, whose second single release, “The Boss,” featuring T-Pain, rose to #2 on the Billboard Hot Rap chart, #5 R&B, and Top 20 on the Hot 100. The next single, “Here I Am” featuring Nelly and Avery Storm, also hit inside the Top 10 on the Rap and R&B charts. Trilla got off to a fast start with a release week performance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. “The Boss” video went into rotation on MTV, MTV2, and MTV hits, along with BET and FUSE.

Ross recently launched a new website http://www.rickrossdeeperthanrap.com

John Brown ft. EMS "Can't Get No Higher"

PHAROAHE MONCHE, STYLES P, J PERIOD added to BHF '09

Brooklyn Bodega announced three additions to the lineup for the 5th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival. Joining Smif N Wessun will be Pharoahe Monch, Styles P and J Period.

This unique lineup of Hip-Hop acts is a testament to the diversity that the Festival represents.

The intelligent and critically acclaimed Pharoahe Monch is on board for this year's event. Monch is most known for his smash single, "Simon Says" from 1999's Internal Affairs album and his classic collaboration with Mos Def and Nate Dogg "On No", however he is far from a flash in the pan rapper. He was the co-founder of the legendary duo Organized Konfusion with partner Prince Po. Monch has been pushing the envelope on lyricism and artistry for almost twenty years and there is no sign of him letting up anytime soon. With a new album, Desire, and collaborations with producers The Alchemist and Black Milk, old school to new school alike respect the Pharoahe. His unique delivery and wordplay make him one of the most popular New York rappers and we at the Brooklyn Bodega are excited to have him on board.

Styles P will be adding his no nonsense lyrical style to the 5th Annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival. As the landscape of hip-hop is changing with many eclectic artists labeled everything from emo-rap to hipster rap, there are still MCs who give you the streets, straight no chaser, no fairy tales, no lies. Styles P is one of the game's premier MCs with an unwavering and relentless delivery. Styles first stormed the scene as a member of The LOX. The trio consisting of Styles, Jadakiss and Sheek Louch were part of the original Ruff Ryders family that including DMX and Eve. The LOX released the classics, "Money, Power, Respect" and "Wild Out." After leaving Bad Boy the trio has embarked on successful solo careers. Styles P dropped his solo debut A Gangsta and A Gentlemen in 2002 and since has dropped two other solo albums and countless mixtapes. He recently released the hit single, "Blow Your Mind" with longtime producer and mentor Swizz Beats. Styles is one of the few MC's in the marketplace who can move between the mainstream and backpack/progressive space with ease and respect.

Mixtape impresario J Period has been a staple of the Festival for years. His sets have produced some of the best highlights from the Festival. Keith Murray, Parrish Smith, Jeru, Chubb Rock, Crazy Legs and more. J Period's exclusive mixtapes featuring Q-Tip and Lauryn Hill are industry standards. This year J Period and Brooklyn Bodega are taking the execution up a notch by producing a live Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival mixtape featuring performances from all the acts and guests that hit the stage. Contributors to the live mixtape will be rolled out every week between now and June 20th.

Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival Executive Director Wes Jackson, "We are more than pleased when we look at our lineup so far. Our goal has always been to unite the Hip-Hop audience under one banner. Monch, Styles and Smif N Wessun represent different branches of the Hip-Hop tree. They defy the labels stamped on them. Monch is conscious rapper who is at equal ease on the bully pulpit as he is in the club. Some know him for Organized Konfusion's 'Releasing Hypnotical Gasses.' Some know him for the anthem 'Simon Says.' Styles is supposed to be a gangster rapper but has done some of his best work with Talib Kweli. His song 'I'm Black' was one of the most provocative and conscious songs of the past 10 years. So provocative that he risked his deal with Interscope just to get it out. Smif N Wessun is a local act that are just as popular in Japan as they are in Crown Heights. And J Period is the glue that keeps us all connected. This lineup is diversity. This is Hip-Hop. Hopefully we can get Styles and Monch to do 'My Life.'"

Styles P, Pharoahe Monch and J Period will be joining Brooklyn's own Smif N Wessun who were announced last week. Dru Ha, Co-Owner of Duck Down Records
"The Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival is one of the most talked about events of the Spring. Brooklynites line up hours in advance of the show to partake in what has become a yearly tradition that provides quality entertainment for the Community. It's an honor to work with Brooklyn Bodega who strives to unite aspiring artists with renowned veterans. In the words of Smif N Wessun, "Bucktown I represent it on the love love. Deeply routed from my Timbz to my ____." If you can fill in the rest we already know you're rocking with us. 360 degrees back home, we'll see everyone June 20th at Fulton Ferry State Park."

------------

More acts including the winner of the 'Show and Prove' contest will be announced in the coming weeks.

The 5th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival takes place on June 20th, 2009 from 12-8pm at Empire Fulton Ferry State Park.

Tickets are available for a $10 suggested minimum donation.
